Combining Ancient Wisdom with Modern-Day Science

About Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct primary health care profession that combines the ancient wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science. Naturopathic physicians are trained as primary care providers who manage patients with acute and chronic conditions, focusing on wellness and disease prevention.

With my training, I work to find the underlying causes of disease and provide individualized & evidence-informed health recommendations. My goal is to empower my clients to reach optimal health using the six naturopathic principles, as outlined below:

1. The Healing Power of Nature

Naturopathic physicians recognize the body’s inherent self-healing process. They identify & remove obstacles to healing and recovery to facilitate this inherent process.

2. Identify & Treat the Root Cause

Naturopathic Physicians identify & remove the underlying causes of illness rather than just eliminate or suppress symptoms.

3. First Do No Harm

Naturopathic Physicians follow 3 key guidelines: (1) Utilize methods and provide health recommendations that minimize the risk of harmful side effects, using the least force necessary to diagnose and treat; (2) Avoid when possible the harmful suppression of symptoms; and (3) Acknowledge, respect, and work with individuals’ self-healing processes.

4. Doctor as Teacher

Naturopathic Physicians educate patients and encourage self-responsibility for health and wellness. They also recognize and employ the therapeutic potential of the doctor-patient relationship.

5. Treat the Whole Person

Naturopathic Physicians treat patients by taking into account their physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, and social, among other factors, when diagnosing and providing health recommendations.

6. Prevention

Naturopathic Physicians emphasize the prevention of disease by assessing risk factors, heredity, and susceptibility to disease, and by making appropriate interventions in partnerships with their patients to prevent illness.
